5 habits to borrow from Elon Musk that make him successful

One of the richest persons in the world today, Elon Musk is known for his relentless work ethic, leadership, and eccentric life choices. The CEO of Tesla and X, Musk is known for often working for over 100 to 120 hours per week, which is an extraordinary feat in itself. We all have got 24 hours in a day but what is Musk doing differently which makes him much more productive that the rest? Over the years, the billionaire has given a glimpse of his daily routines in tweets, posts on Reddit, and Joe Rogan’s podcast as well. Here we list some habits to borrow from Elon Musk that make him so successful:

1. Optimal sleep of 6 hours daily

Elon Musk once shared that though the daily recommended sleep should be of seven hours, for him the optimal amount is six hours. And he sticks to sleeping six hours every night which helps him refresh and boosts his productivity. Answering a Reddit Q&A once, Musk shared that he sleep for six hours and wakes up at 7am daily. “I find if I don’t get enough sleep, I’m quite grumpy… my mental acuity would be affected,” he had shared. He had also shared that there are days when he would skip breakfast, but he would not miss taking a shower every morning as it helps him get great ideas.

2. Extreme work ethic and focus

Elon Musk manages multiples companies including Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, X, The Boring Company, and he often worked close to 100 hours per week (the average being 40 hours per week for most people). However, it isn’t just his hardwork but also smart work wich helps him stay focussed and be more productive than the rest. For this, Musk is said to use an intense version of the Pomodoro technique wherein he schedules each task into smaller time slots. He divides his day into small 5-minute intervals, which ensures maximum productivity. This allows him to remove distractions and focus on high-priority tasks, instead of multitasking and switching between tasks. This also helps him make time for smaller things like emails, meetings, meals, and social media.

3. Exercise

While Elon Musk is not too fond of exercising, he often takes time out for it. After all, it’s only when one has a healthy body and mind that they can focus at work and other things in life. “I wouldn’t exercise at all if I could… The older I get the harder it is to stay lean, that’s for sure,” he told Joe Rogan in a podcast. However, Musk take time out for working out on a treadmill along with TV distractions. As per reports, Musk also practises martial arts– like Karate and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu– which helps him stay active and fit.

4. Plan for the next day

Just like Elon Musk plans his day to focus on high-priority work, he also plans his next day a night before which keeps him ahead of others. He is also said to avoid food and alcohol before sleeping, as it improves his sleep quality

5. Read, read, read

Not matter how successful he is, Elon Musk takes out time to read and educate himself on a regular basis. Musk is said to often read before bed which helps him relax and unwind, and find inspiration. Musk is said to be an avid reader from his early childhood in South Africa, where he is said to read for over 10 hours daily. Reading has helped him come up with innovative ideas and grow as a person.
