India’s first cheetah safari at Kuno National Park.

India’s biodiverse landscape and rich wildlife heritage achieved a historic milestone recently. Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park became the country’s first destination to officially host a cheetah safari for all visitors and tourists. The safari, which began on October 1, has since boosted the state’s tourism sector, attracting global visitors with the chance to catch a glimpse of the world’s fastest land animal in its natural habitat.

The cheetah safari also symbolises India’s commitment towards wildlife restoration and conservation of the carnivore species, which has significantly reduced in number over the past decades. The special safari is part of the Cheetah Reintroduction Project, for which the Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh’s Sheopur district was chosen as a reward for its expansive grasslands, abundant prey base and suitable climate.

More About Cheetah Safari

It was back in 2022 when the Kuno National Park hosted a large-scale international relocation program, as per which cheetahs from Namibia and South Africa were provided with their habitats inside the park. Kuno currently boasts safe and sustainable shelters for 16 cheetahs, which are carefully managed by the park officials and experts from the forest department.

The Kuno Cheetah Safari brings to wildlife enthusiasts an experience they will never forget. The park hosts its safaris during early mornings and late afternoons, when the cheetahs are naturally more active, go hunting, or simply roam about their territories. To make the adventure a safe and insightful prospect for all tourists, wildlife geeks, nature lovers and photographers, the officials ensure each safari group has a trained naturalist accompanying them. These provide visitors fascinating information related to cheetah behaviour, their hunting techniques and the animal’s role in India’s ecological balance.

How To Book The Cheetah Safari And Ticket Prices

The safari bookings at Kuno National Park are available online. Adventure seekers can secure their tickets on the official website of Madhya Pradesh’s forest department. Bookings can also be made via authorised travel operators or wildlife tour companies linked officially with the park.

Entry is available for all visitors from the Tiktoli, Ahera, and Pipalbawdi gates that serve as safari’s starting points. At each point, visitors are required to follow regulations for vehicle type, timing and capacity.

As for the ticket pricing, the charge for a Gypsy Safari of up to 6 people has been placed at Rs 4,500 per vehicle. For private vehicle entry, visitors have to pay Rs 1,200 per vehicle.
